Concordium is a privacy-centric, public and permissionless blockchain based on proof_of_stake mechanism to ensure resource-efficient operation of the network along with enhanced security among participants. Its native cryptocurrency is CCD. CCD is a payment token that can be used for a variety of purposes, including as payment for execution of smart contract, payments between users, and payments for commercial transactions. Transaction costs in the Concordium blockchain are designed to be relatively stable in EUR terms, thereby enabling businesses and other users to predict and plan with fixed predictable EUR costs.

Concordium [1] was launched in 2018, by co-founder of Saxo Bank, Lars Seier Christiensen. The Concordium blockchain has been designed from the ground to support regulatory compliance, with the vision to allow businesses and financial institutions to harness the power of blockchain technology.

Concordium established the Concordium Blockchain Research Centre at Aarhus University [2] in February 2019, investing DKK 50 million (EUR 6.6 million) over five years. The center focuses on blockchain security, transparency, and usability research, showcasing Concordium's commitment to advancing blockchain technology through academic collaboration.

Concordium’s innovative identity layer provides on-chain identity, compliance-centric transactions and enhanced privacy for users, while also allowing for the de-anonymization of network participants. The Concordium Platform has been developed in a closed environment, but before the launch of Mainnet, the codebase for all central components of the Concordium Platform has been made open-source [3].
